Pakka Bellingsgausen, ¡Previet Punta!

The Antarctic Adventure is over!

The 31st of February, we arrived in Punta Arenas, fin del mundo as well, after a last glass of Vodka on the beach of Ardley Bay.

The mountain hostel was replaced by the beach hostel, Alejos home in Rio Secco, where we could enjoy the group all together for our last days.

And all of sudden, we (Elias, JS, Elena and Muddy Maude) were alone! After so many weeks with the group! It was strange, and I was happy to leave for Cabo Froward. Our new adventure, and indeed it was one.

¡Llegamos a la cruz!

And… we couldn’t see anything: no see, no beach, no Terra del Fuego, just white fog! But since we are positive people, it was not dramatic, we even liked the rain. Anyway, we didn¡t have the choice. From this day on, it was raining everyday and everynight, we were wet, our shoes were wet, our bags were wet…Anyway, we had to cross so many deep rivers, climb steep muddy (yes muddy Maude, I know) cliffs, walk through red marshes… In the beginning, you try not to step into the biggest water-mud-puddles, but after some time, ¡es igual! And I like this feeling.

On our way back, we spent a whole afternoon in the “cabaña del indio”, and his spirit was waking over us and the fire, while we were drying ourselves and our stuff in the little hut.

In the evening, we left the hut for our nightwalk! At the faro San Isidro, we ate midnight dinner, and continued walking until we reached Puente Santa Maria and our bus in the morning. It was crazy, none of us felt sleepy, and so we spent the rest of the day eating and snacking and buying all the food we had been phatasying on for the last few days…
